Mandy Karnauskas, Ph.D.

Ecosystem Science Lead

Mandy Karnauskas is a Research Fishery Biologist and serves as the Ecosystem Science Lead for the SEFSC.  Her research interests include applied fisheries oceanography to understand variability in fish recruitment, advancing data-limited stock assessment methods, and understanding marine social-ecological systems to support holistic resource management.  Mandy co-leads the Gulf of Mexico Integrated Ecosystem Assessment Program and is involved in initiatives to advance ecosystem approaches to management in the region.  She serves as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students, and is active in outreach and works heavily with stakeholders in her research.  Mandy received her Ph.D. in Marine Biology and Fisheries from the University of Miami and has a diverse range of experience with fisheries management in the larger Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean region, and was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2016.
