Rancho Nuevo, Mexico Information on the nesting biology of the Kemp's ridley turtle is very important to resource managers and conservationists. The NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources has funded the Southeast Fisheries Science Center to investigate basic reproductive parameters of the Kemp's ridley and to assist the Bi-National (Mexico and United States) and multi-Agency conservation efforts on the beach in Tamaulipas,Mexico. This project supplements the southwest Florida research on immature Turtles.
Research data on the various reproductive parameters such as turtle and clutch sizes and weights, nesting intervals, and nesting behavior have been collected. Information on immature turtles tagged in the U.S. and found nesting in Mexico is also collected. |
