Current Research
Joanne's interests are in population dynamics of sea turtles and interactions of sea turtles with fisheries. Current projects focus primarily on loggerhead, green and Kemp's ridley sea turtle populations along the east coast of the U.S. and include estimating population abundance, determining growth rates, sex ratios, and stock composition, establishing baseline health indices for loggerhead populations, and assisting with the mitigation of sea turtle mortality in fisheries. Additional research includes attachment of satellite transmitters to loggerhead sea turtles to remotely investigate migratory behavior, water temperature preference, and surfacing behavior.
