What should you do if you find a stranded dolphin?
Contact the local stranding network to report a stranded marine mammal.
Bottlenose dolphin research at the Beaufort Lab includes:
- tracking dolphins using telemetry/tagging during periods of months to a year
- using photo-identification to track individuals over many years
- using stable isotope ratios to learn more about diets and habitats of dolphins over periods of months to a lifetime
- studying genetic structure of groups of dolphins providing evolutionary history, in collaboration with the SEFSC marine mammal genetics lab in Lafayette, LA
- studying life history of the bottlenose dolphin
- researching health of bottlenose dolphins
