ETHYL ALCOHOL REQUIREMENTS

 

Ethyl Alcohol shall be used and stored in a manner that ensures an appropriate level of accountability and responsible care.  The following requirements are to be followed with regards to ethyl alcohol use:

 

  • Ethyl Alcohol is a controlled item and must be approved and ordered by the SEFSC Purchasing Specialist or designee;

  • Ethyl Alcohol should not be used for purposes where other alcohols (i.e. denatured alcohol or isopropanol) can be used;  

  • Any laboratory using ethyl alcohol will limit its supply to the smallest amount necessary for uninterrupted research;

  • All quantities should be stored in locked cabinets;

  •  If the cumulative amount is larger than 2 gallons they must be kept in locked flammable cabinets;  

  • The SEFSC Environmental, Safety & Health Compliance Officer will survey at least annually, those areas where ethyl alcohol are stored.
